Instructor Bio
Jason received his scientific training at Columbia University’s Department of Microbiology where he earned his M.A. and M.Phil., publishing papers on the biochemistry of molecular signaling in immune cells. Prior to that he studied biology at the State University of New York College at New Paltz where he researched the symbiosis of the nitrogen-fixing bacteria Rhizobium with the root nodules of the legume Pisatum sativum. He has recently been appointed to teach General Microbiology at SUNY college for the Spring 2008 semester.
An avid biologist, Jason has kept various forms of aquaria for over 25 years ranging from freshwater biotopes and vivaria to koi ponds and of course, reefs. He has been keeping captive reefs for 4 years and has voraciously consumed literature relevant to the topic from not only the hobby world but primary scientific literature as well. His current fascination, in true “micro”-biology form, is nano-reef aquaria.
Jason currently lives in New York.
